Old Borden Pic

HL Borden Lumber and Hardware was started in 1912 in Strasburg, VA by the late Harry L. Borden. One of the original buildings was built for the manufacture of horse and mule shoes, but with the advent of the 'horseless carriage' it was converted to storage for hardwood lumber. The other building on site was built for the purpose of dry kindling hardwood lumber. With the discontinuance of hardwood manufacturing, this building was later used as a silk mill.

In recent years, buildings on the present site included a sewing factory and a furniture store. A quick walk across our lumber yard reveals the traces of a vital industry where train cars were unloaded by fork lift and the greater region was served by its industrious citizens.  Beginning in 2009 , Borden's Lumber-- a name long revered for quality products and service -- added to its offerings with a full array of hardware supplies. As we move into our second hundred years, we look forward to serving our community in new and innovative ways that reflect an ongoing commitment to excellence.
